COLUMBUS, OHIO (October 10, 2017) – The City of Whitehall on Tuesday, October 10th announced a partnership with the YMCA of Central Ohio to transform the activity building at Whitehall Community Park into the Community Park YMCA.
Tying into last month’s unveiling of Whitehall’s master plan for the 85-acre nature park, an upgraded community recreation center is the single largest proposed element.
The Community Park YMCA will be a rec center focused on providing programming to better all aspects of families, with a unique youth focus. By partnering with the YMCA of Central Ohio, the City of Whitehall will be able to engage with local youth, offer contemporary programs, modernize an existing facility, focus on community-driven programming and facilitate further partnerships.
“City leaders and residents have been working toward a community center for many years,” said Mayor Kim Maggard. “We performed countless surveys, focus groups, stakeholder meetings and interviews with local youth to identify what kind of programming our residents called for. Adding a community center to an already great 85-acre nature park will enhance Whitehall Community Park’s already expansive outdoor offerings.”
Master plan items, such as the re-meadowing of Whitehall Community Park’s lower level, will be implemented beginning in 2018, with architectural selection for the Community Park YMCA to begin in the first quarter of 2018.
