Police Station Renovation Project
Renovation and Expansion Project Overview
Thanks to Whitehall voters supporting the Safer Whitehall Levy, the Whitehall Police Station on S. Yearling will receive much-needed facility and technology updates. Once complete in fall 2024, the project will add 18,000 square feet to the station and will include major upgrades to the emergency dispatch room, firing range, property management room, training facilities and the neighbor privacy fence. The main lobby and reception area will also be redesigned, and named in honor of fallen Whitehall officer, Terry McDowell.
Summer 2023 Update
Site works for the addition and renovation project are now underway. Throughout late summer, you can expect to see a number of subcontractors working to prepare the site (e.g. excavation, tree removal, underground utilities installation, etc.) for the addition. By the end of the year, you’ll see the steel frame for the addition erected, with roofing, windows, doors and exterior masonry installed shortly thereafter.

Project Timeline
The renovation and expansion project will be multi-phase, with the addition taking precedent so that police operations can move into the new facility while renovation of the old facility is underway. A basic project timeline is below - please note these timeframes are subject to change as the project progresses.
- Pre-Construction:
- March – July 2023: Construction contracting and early procurement process completed
- Addition
- August 2023: Site mobilization (including construction fencing, excavation, tree removal, etc.), and underground utility installation
- September 2023: Foundation works underway
- Late fall 2023: Steel structure erected
- Winter 2024: Windows, doors, roofing and brick/stone façade installed
- Winter 2024-July 2024: Interior Finishing Work Underway
- Late Summer 2024: Addition Complete
- Renovation:
- Summer 2023 – Fall 2023: Basement demolition, new framing and finishing, as well as installation of new firing range
- Summer 2024 –Fall 2024: First floor demolition, framing and finishing
- Late Fall 2024: Renovation Complete
