Fire Hydrant Flushing

FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING

The Whitehall Division of Fire is conducting their annual fire hydrant flushing process from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning May 15 through June 30, 2023.

How will I be impacted?

Hydrant flushing can cause low water pressure and rusty water to appear from your house’s water service. Do not be alarmed because it presents no immediate hazard. Allow water to run until clear if rusty water appears. Please avoid doing laundry during the times of hydrant flushing in your area. If you have any questions, please contact the Division of Fire at (614) 237-5478.

Why do we flush the fire hydrants?

The springtime flushing of the hydrants ensures that each of the City's 874 fire hydrants is in proper working order. It also eliminates dirt and debris that may cause a malfunction of either the hydrant or the fire engine during use. Hydrants that fail inspection will be turned over to the Service Department for repair and marked so as to avoid confusion during an emergency.
